Malaysia Island Holidays

So you’ve decided that you want an island holiday. What better place than to have it in Malaysia? In Malaysia you are guaranteed a myriad of interesting activities suitable for everyone (without breaking the bank too!). In fact, such diversity does Malaysian islands have that travelling between islands is almost like moving from one different world to the next. Even so considering that the monsoon season is months away; the skies are clear, the water is cooling and adventure awaits you!

Here are some of the activities that Malaysian islands have to offer!

Diving Sites

The numerous islands, paired together with constant temperatures all year round, plus lengthy periods where conditions are ideal for diving – clear waters, calm seas and sunny days: truly a diver’s paradise. The diving sites of Malaysia are all teeming with interesting sights, ranging from multi-colored coral reefs to massive schools of deep sea fish in their natural habitat. Wreck diving, wall diving, diving for beginners to expert divers: there’s always something for everyone!

(Suggested dive sites: Pulau Perhentian, Pulau Layang-layang, Pulau Tioman)

Island Holiday

Nothing beats the variety that islands in Malaysia can provide when it comes to holidays. Looking for an island rich in culture, tradition and steeped in folklore? Langkawi Island is perfect for you and your family! Seeking adventure in a place that is breathtakingly beautiful yet teemed with outdoor activities? Pulau Sipidan it is! Shopping and gastronomic delights is your way to relax? Head over to Penang Island! A relaxing time at the beach while soaking up the sun? Set a date for Pulau Pangkor!

In a nutshell, hopping from island to island is akin to travelling from one world to another!

Ecotourism

Looking for a way back to nature? Malaysia is the right place for you. With over 100 islands covered in tropical rainforests, it’s the ideal place for nature enthusiasts to explore Mother Nature. Langkawi Island is rich in flora and fauna in the island’s nature reserves – which is open for visitors to explore in any means they wish. The abundance of trails would make trekking through the jungle a breeze, or a bird’s eye view of the island would greet you if you take the cable car ride over the island.

Sailing + Water Sports

The oceans that surround Malaysia’s numerous islands are perfect for sailors as well as those who want to have fun with water sports. Most established islands have their own marinara and it is possible to hire boats to either take a leisurely sail around, or for island hopping. Some places might even let you hire a yacht which takes you out to the deep sea to view the sunset!

As for water sports, the established tourist spots on the island would readily have operators to hire equipment for your convenience: banana boats, jet skis, parasailing and such.
(Suggested sites: Pulau Pangkor, Pulau Langkawi, Pulau Tioman)

Island Hopping

Usually the main islands in Malaysia would be accompanied by clusters of smaller, uninhabited islands which make for great fun to explore as each would have their respective attraction. Most resorts will provide island-hopping services where an experienced guide will bring you to interesting islands and tell you stories behind the islands. One great example would be Swallow Reefs off the coast of Sabah: the island is sanctuary to thousands of migratory raptors; A delightful experience for bird-watchers as well as holiday-goers to witness. Some islands might even be home to rare species of animals such as tigers, tapirs and birds.
